BMI calculator
BMI from height and weight, with the WHO category.
BMI
23.5
Normal weight (WHO)
What do these numbers mean?
- BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. Categories are adult screening ranges, not a diagnosis; they do not directly measure body fat.
- In decimal numbers, commas separate thousands and a dot separates decimals: 1,234.5 = 1234 + 0.5. ×10^3 means multiply by 1000; ×10^-3 means divide by 1000. Display rounding can make tiny differences between shown totals.
BMI is inside the healthy range.

How this is worked out
- Height in metres: 175 cm ÷ 100 = 1.75 m.
- BMI = 72 ÷ 1.75² = 23.5.
- Ranges: under 18.5 underweight, 18.5–24.9 normal, 25–29.9 overweight, 30 and above obese.
BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat.
