Help

Numbers are rounded for display. A singular matrix has no inverse.

How to use

  1. Choose matrix dimensions up to 5×5 and enter a number in every cell.
  2. Choose addition, subtraction or multiplication. Results update immediately.
  3. Determinant, inverse and transpose apply to matrix A only.
  4. An explanation appears if a cell is empty or the matrix cannot be inverted.

What do these numbers mean?
  • Each entry has a row and column position. Addition/subtraction operate on matching entries; multiplication sums products of a row of A and a column of B. Transpose swaps rows and columns; an inverse requires a nonzero determinant and numerical stability.
  • In decimal numbers, commas separate thousands and a dot separates decimals: 1,234.5 = 1234 + 0.5. ×10^3 means multiply by 1000; ×10^-3 means divide by 1000. Display rounding can make tiny differences between shown totals.
